The Banner-Press (David City, Nebr.), February 23, 1978, p. 20, col. 5 Jacob J. Hamsa Funeral Services Held February 15 Funeral services for Jacob J. Hamsa, 65, of Lincoln, were conducted Wednesday morning, Feb. 15, from Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lincoln, with Rev. Jerome Pokorny and Rev. Frank Machovec officiating. Mr. Hamsa died Saturday, Feb. 11, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Lincoln, following a heart attack. Pallbearers were John and Alfred Novacek, Donald Hamsa, Emil and James Tesina and Blain Baseler. Burial was at Assumption Cemetery, Dwight, with Rev. Gerald Vap in charge of the graveside service. Members of the Catholic Workman Branch No. 32 of Dwight attended in a body. Jacob J. Hamsa, the son of Frank and Antonie Hromas Hamsa, was born July 25, 1913, at Brainard. He was united in marriage to Helen Louise Belsan at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Bee on March 24, 1940. Three children were born to this union. Jake was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, founder of the Lincoln Chapter of Nebraska Czechs, past president of Lincoln Czechs of Nebraska, Inc., past president of Nebraska Czechs, Inc., member of Eagles Lodge No. 147 and Catholic Workman Lodge No. 32 of Dwight. He served in the United States Navy from 1936 to 1940. He was a Dwight businessman before moving to Lincoln in 1953. He retired from the Post Office in 1974. In 1976 he received the Knight of Blanek award at the Czech Festival in Wilber. He is survived by his wife, Helen; two sons, Ronald of Sioux City, Ia. and Francis Hamsa of Dwight; one daughter, Mrs. Michael (Jeanne) Lord of Pacifica, Calif.; one brother, James Hamsa of David City; one sister, Mrs. Mary Novacek of Dwight; and five grandchildren, Steven and Lisa Hamsa of Sioux City, Daniel and Dina Hamsa of Dwight and Michele Lord of Pacifica, Calif. His parents, two brothers, Frank and Joe Hamsa, and three grandchildren preceded him in death.
