Bio

OBERKOTTER, HENRY—Died, Sunday, January 6, 1907, at 11 p. m. at his home in Geneva township, of apoplexy, Henry Oberkotter, aged 75 years, 9 months and 21 days. Mr. Oberkotter was born in West Falln, Prussia, in 1831. When twenty-one years of age he came to his country and settled at Cincinnati, O. From there he went to Wisconsin and then to Illinois. When the war broke out he enlisted in battery A, First regiment, Illinois volunteers light artillery, where he served three years. Then he returned to Illinois. On March 1, 1866, he was united in marriage to Miss Rebecca Wohers. They moved to Lafayette county, Missouri, where they lived twelve years. Then they moved to Fillmore county, where they have resided for the past twenty-two years. Mr. Oberkotter was a member of the German Lutheran church. About five years ago he met with an accident which deprived him of his Sight. Since that time he has been in poor health, but his death came suddenly and was a great shock to his family and the community. There survive him a wife and four sons and seven daughters, all of whom were present at the funeral except Mrs. C. Klineline of Wisconsin, who was unable to attend. There were two other children who died in infancy. Mr. Oberkotter was a kind husband and a loving father and will be missed very much in his home, in the church, and in the community. The family has the sympathy of the community in their sad bereavement. The funeral will occur at 10 o'clock Friday morning at the house, Rev. E. Berg of the German Lutheran church officiating. The interment will be in Geneva. There will be no school Friday on account of the funeral of Mr. Oberkotter. Nebraska Signal 11 JAN 1907 pg 8 *DOB is calculated. *
