OBERKOTTER, MARIA REBECCA—Maria, widow of Henry Oberkotter, died at the family home in Geneva Township, Fillmore County, Nebraska, at 6 a.m. Sunday, December 18, 1932, aged 85 years, 11 months and 15 days. The funeral services will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church south of Grafton at 2 p. m. Thursday, December 22. Interment will be in the Geneva Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal 22 December 1932 front page. ALSO: Maria Rebecca Wohlers was born in Hanover, Germany, January 3, 1847. She died at her home in Geneva Township December 18, 1932. She migrated with her parents to the United States at the age of eleven, coming across the Atlantic in a slow-sailing vessel that took seven weary weeks to make the trip. They came up the Mississippi River by boat and made their first home in America on a farm near Meredosia, Ill. March 1, 1866, she was married to Henry Oberkotter. This couple lived for a few years in Illinois, then moved to Missouri, and the next move, in 1885 brought them to Nebraska. Maria Oberkotter lived on their farm northwest of Geneva for forty-seven years. Mrs. Oberkotter has been a semi-invalid for the past ten years, but last Sunday morning at 6 a.m. after a short, severe attack of the flu, her spirit took its flight. Her husband preceded her in death twenty-six years ago and her oldest son, John, ten years ago. The rest of the children, ten in number are scattered far and wide: Henry, Burwell, Neb.; Martin, New York City; Anna, Lark, N. D.; Amalia, Los Angeles, Calif.; Martha, Lena, Louise and Florence, Seattle, Wash.; Alvin and Mary of Geneva, Neb. She is also survived by an only sister, Mrs. Maggie Werries of Tescott, Kas.; twenty grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. The funeral services were held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Thursday, December 22, and were conducted by Rev. G. W. Miller. Interment was in the Geneva Cemetery.
