Bio

EDWARD FRANKLIN COX, SR. Edward Franklin Cox, Sr., the son of Daniel Cox and Mary Ann Frampton, was born December 5, 1832, in Green County, Illinois. When a boy of eleven years, his family joined the Mormon Church and started on their way to Utah in 1848, with the exception of their mother who had died in Illinois leaving the father to care for the family. Young Ed's job was to walk and drive the extra cattle which he did very faithfully all the way. They stayed in Iowa two years where they obtained work and then came on to Utah in 1850. The Cox family was one of the first families to make their home at Snow Springs. He lived very close to nature. His duties as a boy included herding cattle and guarding the home from the Indians. On March 13, 1856, he married Hannah Ashton in Lehi and to them were born seven children, lived an active life on a farm on the old lake road. Their friendliness and willingness to help others won for them many friends. Many a widow received the produce from the Cox farm. On February 14, 1894, he lost his mate and continued on alone, taking care of the family and helping build the city he loved. On August 22, 1899, he married his second wife, Anne Hughes, a convert to the Church. After a long life of trials and hardships and always cheerfully trying to help others, he passed away at his home, April 22, 1922, at the age of ninety.
