Bio
Son of Calvin & Mattie (Pilling) Gertsch. He married Carolyn Eva Laudenklaus on September 20, 1944 at Brownwood, Texas. He received his education at District #8 in Colfax County and at Kramer High School in Columbus. He worked as a farm hand prior to joining the U.S. Army in September 1942 where he was assigned to the 13th Armoured Division and received his training at Camp Walters, Texas. He spent a year in Germany 1945-46 receiving his discharge as a Cpl. Sgt on February 26, 1946. Folowing his discharge from the service he was employed for 25 years by the Bertchold Cattle Company and 10 years by Behlen Manufacturing. After his retirement he was self employed as an auto mechanic.
