Bio

Alice M. Dietrich, 94, of Schuyler, passed away Friday, Jan. 9, 2015, in David City. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, at First Presbyterian Church in Schuyler with the Rev. Neal Allen officiating. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Svoboda Funeral Home North Chapel and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Schuyler Cemetery. Alice was born Oct. 19, 1920, in Creston to Calvin and Mattie (Pilling) Gertsch. She attended District 8 School in Colfax County. On Aug. 31, 1940, Alice married Ladislav Dietrich. She enjoyed embroidering, playing bingo, cards, working puzzles, gardening and babysitting the grandkids and great-grandkids. Alice is survived by seven sons, Lad (Carol) Dietrich Jr. of Marysville, Ohio, Calvin (Carolyn) Dietrich of Leigh, Richard Dietrich of David City, Leroy Dietrich of Schuyler, Rolland Dietrich of Schuyler, Robert Dietrich of Tecumseh and Myron (Sarah) Dietrich of David City; four daughters, Mary (Emil) Janousek of Bee, Virginia (Robert) Dunker of Schuyler, Susan Wallingford of Schuyler and Karen (Danny) Blum of Schuyler; two brothers, Marian Gertsch of North Platte and Russell (Norma) Gertsch of Park Ridge, Illinois; one sister, Vera (Kenneth) Weller of Central City; 30 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Alice was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lad in 1989; daughter, Janet Robertson; granddaughter, Courtney Dunker; great-grandson, Eddison Wallingford; and great-granddaughter, Lauran Pekarek.
