Bio

VICTORIA -- Edward J. Patek, age 77, passed away on June 19, 2012. He was born on October 8, 1934, in Shiner, to the late Vladik "Laddie" Patek Sr. and Augustina Drabek Patek. He graduated from Saint Ludmila's Academy and attended Baldwin's Business College and Houston Community College. He served in the United States Army. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and KJT. He also volunteered at VCAM. Edward owned and operated Patek's Auto Air. He enjoyed working with his hands, hunting, and fishing. He was a family man of great faith and had a joyful heart. He was very dear to his family, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Edward is survived by his wife, Marjorie Stasny Patek; daughters, Carolyn Bassett and husband, Steve, of San Antonio, and Kathy McFarland and husband, Brent, of Cedar Park; sisters, Gussie Walla of Smithville, and Ann Wagner and husband, Bill, of Victoria; brothers, Laddie Joe "L. J." Patek and wife, Mildred, of Victoria, and John William "Johnnie" Patek and wife, Virginia Rose Pavlas Patek, of Yoakum; eight grandchildren, James Bassett, David Bassett, Natalie Bassett, Kylie McFarland, Tucker McFarland, Braedon McFarland, Skylar McFarland, and Blaise McFarland. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Agnes Ann Patek Schlenker and Mary M. Smith. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2012, at Holy Family Catholic Church, and a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Thursday. The Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, June 22, 2012, at Holy Family Catholic Church, with the Reverend George Henninger officiating. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Mausoleum. Serving as pallbearers will be Vaughn Paul Smith, Garland Schlenker, Gregory Patek, Mike DeBord, David Wagner, and Gary Patek. Memorial contributions may be made Holy Family Catholic Church, VCAM, or Cardinal Newman Society.
