Shiner Gazette, 11 Feb 1988, page 7A Mrs. Laddie Patek Rites Sunday Mrs. Augustina Drabek Patek of Shiner died Friday afternoon, Feb. 5, 1988 in Trinity Lutheran Home in Shiner where she was a resident since Dec. 21, 1987. She transferred from Shady Oak Nursing Home after a 4½ month stay. Last May she became seriously ill and after hospital confinement, she [was] cared for by her children until Aug. 11 when she entered the nursing home. She reached the age of 83 years, 5 months and 18 days. She was born Aug. 17, 1904, near Shiner, daughter of Frank and Annie (Janecek) Drabek. She was a member of the Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, the KJZT and Altar societies. On November 5, 1922, she was married in Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner to Laddie Patek, well known member of the former Patek Orch. The couple resided at Shiner for eight years, then moved about 1931 to their farm in the Old Sweet Home community where she had since made her home. Her husband died Mar. 9, 1963. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 7 at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner with the Rev. Patrick Fidgeon officiating, assisted by Deacon Paul Patek, who gave the homily. Altar attendants were Paul Patek Jr., Brian Patek and Tommie Patek; and Mrs. Doris Patek served as lector. Offertory gifts were presented by granddaughters Nancy Walla of Smithville, Carolyn Patek of Dallas and Cathy Patek of Victoria. Hymns sung by the adult choir included "Only A Shadow," "Just As I Am," "The Strife Is O'er," "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace, accompanied by Mrs. Elvera Jaks at the organ. A parish rosary was held at 7:15 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6 at Buffington Funeral Home in Shiner where the body lay in state. Another rosary was recited jointly in church at 1:30 p.m. Sunday by members of the KJZT and Altar societies. Burial took place in the Shiner Catholic Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were her grandsons, David Wagner of Houston, Darren Wagner, Gary Schlenker, both of Victoria, Greg Patek of Austin, Darrell Schlenker and Mark Patek of Shiner. Surviving are three sons, Laddie Patek Jr. and Edward Patek, both of Victoria, John Patek of Yoakum; four daughters, Mrs. Edward (Agnes) Schlenker of Shiner, Mrs. Mary M. Smith of Austin, Mrs. Pat (Gussie) Walla of Smithville, Mrs. William (Ann) Wagner of Victoria; 26 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three half brothers, Rudy Drabek of Shiner, Eddie Drabek of Colorado, Joe C. Drabek of San Antonio; two stepsisters, Mrs. Adella Leck of Yoakum, Miss Albina Drabek of San Antonio; and a stepbrother, Jeffery W. Peter of Houston. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her mother, about 1913; her father, Feb. 28, 1948; a brother, Leo Drabek, May 10, 1972; her stepmother, Mrs. Mary E. Matusek Peter Drabek, Feb. 22, 1965; stepbrother, M/Sgt. Laddie J. Peter, USAF (Ret.), Nov. 18, 1975.
