Sister of Theo Thomas, Charles Alvis, Mabel Naomi, Jack Dempsey, Francis Leon, William Clyde, Lena Mae, Ina Lee and Rodney Allen Tucker. Gladys 1st married, before 1945, Sam Allen. Gladys married 2nd, before 1950, Virgil Preston Simpson, I. Gladys married 3rd, 20 May 1955, Marion Francis McWhirter. Mother of (by Sam) Linda Louise and Betty Jean Allen. Mother of (by Virgil) Virgil Preston II and Frankie Leon Simpson. Mother of (by Marion) Oscar Perry, Myrtle Leona, Kathy Lynn and William Clyde McWhirter Sr. Granddaughter of Charlie Tucker & Isabelle Brown and Thomas Washington Purvis & Ellena Locklin. ~~~~~~~~~~~~O~~~~~~~~~~~~ Gladys Leona Tucker McWhirter Arcola, Texas—Gladys Leona McWhirter, 85, of Arcola, Texas, passed quietly away in the arms of daughter Kathy at home on Monday April 2, 2012, at 2:20 p.m., to be with her Lord. She was a Baptist. She was born December 8, 1927, in Jackson County, Texas to Cyrus Perry and Ica Lena Purvis Tucker. Gladys is survived by her children: Virgil Simpson, Frankie Simpson, Oscar Perry McWhirter, Myrtle Leona McWhirter, Kathy Lynn McWhirter and William Clyde McWhirter and their spouses; 2 sisters, Mabel Bobbitt of Markham and Lena Mae Trammell of Jarrell, Texas; 2 brothers, William Clyde Tucker and wife, Lou, of Brookhaven, Mississippi, and Rodney Allen Tucker and wife, Doris, of Blessing; 27 grandchildren and a host (multiple) great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and friends. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Marion "Pete" McWhirter; parents, C. P. and Ica Tucker of Palacios; children: Jeanie Allen and Virginia Simpson; and sister, Ina Lee Tucker of Palacios; brothers, Theo Thomas "Tommy" Tucker of Hearne, Texas, Charles Alvis Tucker of Palacios, Jack Dempsey Tucker of Edna, and Frances Leon Tucker of Palacios. Graveside services will be at 10 a. m., Saturday, April 21, 2012, at Hawley Cemetery, Blessing, Texas. Services will be conducted by Brother Larry Swift, pastor of First Baptist Church of Blessing, Texas. Her smiling, loving face and gentle laughter will be missed. May God bless and keep you.
