Bio

Tektronix - CRT Test Technician Mary V. Lulow, 93, passed away May 29, 2012, in Medford, Ore., with her daughter and her niece, Lucy Huber, at her side. Born Jan. 14, 1919, to Emil and Anna (Hladky) Sloup in Garrison, Neb., she was married to Alton E. Lulow Christmas Day 1938 in Tilden, Neb. Moving to the Portland, Ore., area in 1939, they relocated to Raton in 1998 where Alton later passed. Due to her failing health, sweet Mary was brought to Medford last October by her daughter and son-in-law to be near them at Roxy Ann Memory Community. From hitchhiking to Portland, surviving the Van Port City flood in 1948, building their first home into which they moved in 1953, owning one of the first Fiberglas businesses in Portland in the 1950's, enjoying membership in several Lutheran churches and square dancing, life was full. The consummate hostess and a delightful grandmother, above all, Mary was a "lady." Highly organized, she was a perfectionist, from baking and preserving to crocheting, embroidering and letter writing. Being able to rattle off the names of dozens of roses planted by "Al" or doing math in her head was second nature. Mary is survived by daughter Kathleen (Charles) Harwood, Oregon, and loving daughter-in-law, Suzanne Lulow, Raton; grandchildren Brett Harwood, of Oregon, Kimberly (Randy) Scott and Kenneth Lulow (Nibila Jaouhari), all of Washington, and Kit Lulow of Oregon; great-grandchildren Storm Meadows and Makenzie Scott, both of Washington; former daughter-in-law Sharon Kent of Washington; siblings Joe Sloup, Anne Woolsey, Darlene Shippen and Beverly Dwyer of Nebraska; many beloved nieces and nephews; countless dear friends, many of whom reside in Raton; and her adoring, devoted poodle, little Buddy. Mary was predeceased by her husband, 2004; precious son, Robert, 2010; and siblings, Edward Sloup, Rose Gaskill, Emma Nordmeyer and Helen West, Neb. Cremation took place May 31. A celebration of Mary's life was held at Roxy Ann Memory Community June 5 with Dar Wolber, administrator, and Chaplain Fred Grewe, Providence Hospice, officiating. Arrangements were by Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives. She will be interred at a later date next to her beloved Al at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Raton. Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Hospice, 2033 Commerce Drive, Medford, OR 97504.
