I recall her visiting at our house and how spry she was getting around out of doors with her cane, completely ignoring her handicap." Litta Walker wrote, "Once when Aunt Lizzie was visiting in Randolph, the local doctor advised her to have a small cancer removed from her lip. The surgery was performed on Sam Walker's kitchen table." Dorothy Cashatt also wrote "Some Walkers came & settled near Lincoln and are buried in a country cemetery here (Lincoln) - I have not seen the grave stones, only the record of burial." Both are buried in Scotia, Nebraska. After William's death, Lizzie lived with her son Elias. Leader-Independent, Greeley, Nebraska · Thursday, May 02, 1912 pg 1 Mrs. Jeffres Dead Grandma Jeffres passed away Monday morning at the home of her son J. A. Jeffres. Although in failing health for a number of years and crippled almost from childhood by rheumatism, her sufferings were borne with remarkable fortitude and the quiet courage and tireless industry that characterized her life is a lesson few can forget. Grandma Jeffres will be missed most in the home of her son, where in her declining years she has been tenderly cared for, but the entire community mourn the going of a good life. Rev. Berry conducted the funeral services in the church at Horace Tuesday at one o'clock and interment was in Mt. Hope cemetery at Scotia. Elizabeth Walker was born in Licking county, Ohio, in 1823(sic) and was married to William Jeffres in 1847. There was born of this union five sons of whom two survive their mother. A. J. Jeffres of Horace and John of Greeley. Mr. and Mrs. Jeffres moved to Randolph, Iowa in 1865 and coming from there to Greeley county, Nebraska with their family in 1882 where they have since lived.
