Bio

William's ancestors are believed to be traceable back to William Jeffries (b. 1781-1790 Ireland - d. bef 09-17-1846 OH); Hendrick DeWeese (b. abt 1575 Netherlands - d. Unknown); John Wheeler (b. bef 1668 - d. Unknown) and John Spencer (b. bef 1746 - d. 1770 Delaware). William S Jeffres is of Irish descent and born in Licking County, Ohio per Elaine Artlip based on her 1970's research. David Jeffres has provided information that either William S Jeffres or his father William (Jeffres) Jeffries stowed away on a boat from Ireland as a teenager. The name changed from Jeffries to Jeffres while the family still lived in Ohio. However, Ron Case found the name shown as Jeffries in the 1870 Census of Monroe Twp, Fremont County, Iowa. It is not known how many of William's brothers and sisters changed the spelling of their last names. Out of 5 possible known brothers and sisters only 3 are known to have changed to Jeffres. It appears that his parents may have changed their last names to Jeffres too. The name change is believed to have taken place in Ohio because some of those buried there had Jeffres on the tomb stones as seen by Jan Jeffres. 31 July 1850 - US Census - Hanover, Licking, Ohio Household ..........Sex ......Age Birthplace William Jeffers ...Male ....25 ..Ohio Elizabeth Jeffers Female 23 ..Ohio Lewis S Jeffers ...Male ....1 ....Ohio 1860 - US Census - 7 July 1870 - US Census - Monroe Township, Fremont, Iowa Household ..........Sex ......Age Birthplace William Jeffres ...Male ....46 ..Ohio Elizabeth Jeffres Female 46 ..Ohio Elias Jeffres ........Male ....18 ..Ohio Perry Jeffres .......Male ....15 ..Ohio Albert Jeffres ......Male ....12 ..Ohio George Jeffres ....Male ....9 ....Ohio John Jeffres .......Male.... 5 ....Iowa Elizabeth Jeffres Female 24 ..Missouri 9 July 1880 - US Census - Riverside Township, Fremont, Iowa Household ...........Role .Sex .....Age Birthplace William S.
