SPRINGFIELD - Clarence N. Cumby, 72, of Springfield, died at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. Clarence was born February 20, 1940, in Berlin, the son of Everett and Pearl Weger Cumby. He married JoAnn Brandle on September 19, 1968 in Berlin. She preceded him in death. Clarence was a graduate of New Berlin High School and proudly served our country in the U.S. Army. He worked as the head of the maintenance department for the Illinois State Police for 27 years. Clarence was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed fishing. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a step-daughter, Connie Brandle. He is survived by three daughters, Robin (husband, Larry) Dingethal, Brenda Harris and Debbie Cumby; three step-children, Brian Brandle, Mike Brandle and Lori (husband, James) Kunzle; siblings, James (wife, Linda) Cumby, Patricia (husband, William) Large, Betty Tomlin, Everett Cumby and Ethel (husband, Leroy) Bachman and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 6, 2012, at McCullough-Delaney and Butler Funeral Home, 714 E. Gibson St., New Berlin. Funeral ceremony: 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 7, 2012, at McCullough-Delaney and Butler Funeral Home, with Pastor Michael Long officiating. Burial will follow at Berlin Cemetery.
