Texas Coaster, April 28, 1949: Funeral services for Judge Chas. T. Zich, 74, were held yesterday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock from the Needville Methodist Church, with Rev. W.A. Menking officiating, assisted by other minsters of the Needville churches. He was laid to rest in the family burial plot in the Needville Public Cemetery. Judge Zich died Sunday at 12:55 o'clock in the Fort Bend Hospital. He was rushed to the hospital last Thursday after being involved in an automobile accident one-half mile south of Needville on Highway 36. The accident occurred at 2:40 p.m. when a lumber truck driven by James W. Scott, 50, Austin negro, hit Judge Zich's pick-up truck as he came onto the highway from a side road. The truck was a 1946 Dodge truck-tractor and semi-trailer, owned by Troske Bros. Lumber Company of Giddings. Judge Zich was driving a 1947 Dodge pick-up. The truck hit the pick-up in the side as it entered the highway, according to Highway Patrolman J.L. Rundell who, with Deputy Sheriff Alva McGill, investigated the accident. Judge Zich's death brought the number of traffic fatalities in this county this year to five. Last year at this time, three people had been killed in car wrecks in this county. Judge Zich was born September 30, 1874 at Jennings, La., the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Zich. They moved to Brenham and in 1900; he came to Fort Bend County where he taught school for eight years and then took up farming. He retired from farming about 15 years ago. In July 1909, he was married to Miss Annie Miller. Seven children were born to this union but a son and daughter preceded him in death. He was Justice of the Peace of Precinct No. 2 of Fort Bend County, which office he had held intermittently since 1908, for a total of 28 years. Judge Zich was president of the Needville Lumber Company, president of the Farmers Gin Company, president of the Sons of Herman, vice-president of the Needville State Bank, director of the Fairchild Grain Dryer, member of the Jaybird Association of Fort Bend County, director of the Needville Lions Club, and trustee of the Needville Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Annie Zich of Needville; three sons, John of Detroit, Mich., Edmund and Wallace of Needville; two daughters, Mrs. Leona Knight of Pleasantville, N.J., and Mrs. Annabelle Drumm of Rosenberg; four grandchildren; and a brother, J.R. Zich, of Ludey, Okla. Pallbearers were Dr. J.W. Weeks, Gus Kunkel, Fritz Hackstedt, John Feldhoff, Tom Snedecor, Charlie Lehman, Anton Schmidt, Steve Kneitz, and Hamilton Leissner.
