Bio

Nona Pearl Eakins Walker was born April 13, 1911 in rural Davis County, Iowa to Riley and Mayme Owens Eakins, oldest of three children. She married Ira Donald Walker July 6, 1946 in Ottumwa, Iowa. She bore two sons, John Douglas and Daniel Lee, and had a stepdaughter Carole. She taught grade school in a one-room schoolhouse in rural Davis County after graduating high school. A former employee of John Morrell & Co.'s mailroom, she was a nurses' aid at the Ottumwa Hospital for 10 years, and former PTA president of Jefferson Elementary School and a Cub Scout den mother. She is survived by her husband, both sons, her stepdaughter Carole Walker Grassman of Cincinnati, Oh., brothers H. Glen Eakins of Ottumwa, and William Paul Eakins of rural Davis county. She was preceded in death by her father.
