William Paul Eakins was born March 11, 1926 in rural northern Davis County to Riley and Mayme B. Owens Eakins, the third of three children. He married Edith Howk on April 14, 1946 in Ottumwa. He was a life-long resident of Davis County and farmed all his life. He was a member of Zion Community Church of God and caretaker of Ormanville Cemetery. He served many years as Soap Creek Township trustee in Davis County and as a Davis County election board member. An avid hunter, fisherman, and outdoorsman, he respected nature and loved the land. Surviving are his wife, two sons, Clifford of rural Davis County, and Clayton, and daughter Carol of Bloomfield. A daughter Connie Sue died in infancy. Also surviving is his brother Glen of Ottumwa, five grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, and a step-great-grandson. He was preceeded in death by his father and mother and his sister Pearl Eakins Walker.
