Robert joined Col. John Winn's regiment of South Carolina militia in March 1778 and under Andrew Williamson marched to Augusta, then down the Savannah River to Cherokee Hill...other battles Capt Robert Cooper was in: Huck'sdefeat, Rocky Mount, Hanging Rock, Nelson's Ferry, Fish Dam Ford, Blackstock's and King's Mountain. Capt Robert Cooper survived the war by manyyears, took pneumonia in the spring of 1798 and died on May 15. referenced from Hugh Cooper Fishing Creek by LLWRoberts Capt. Robert Cooper was married to Jane Hamilton and had 13 children. He was the son of Hugh Cooper 1720-1793 & unknown Gill. After the death of Capt Robert Cooper his wife Jane Hamilton moved to Tennessee. Their son Col. Robert Melville Cooper, is buried at McClain Cemetery in Lewis Co., Tenn. Their son Matthew Delmar Cooper is buried at Zion Presbyterian Churchyard Cemetery in Maury Co., Tenn. The children of Robert Cooper and Jane Hamilton Cooper are: Elizabeth m. Duffe, Sarah (Sally) married Hugh Barr, Hamilton married Margaret Elizabeth Stevens, Robert Melville married Catherine Cooper (*my direct line.), Matthew Delamere married Mary Agnes Frierson, Elizabeth Jane Frierson and Mary Ann Witherspoon Brown.
