Nearly all of the old travelers will remember her hotel at Independence. It was like a home to the weary traveler. Mrs. DeMasters raised seven children of her own and took a like number of other children and raised them all up till they were grown and married off. Yet, at the advanced age of 73 years she does not seem to think she has done anything out of the ordinary and never mentions the fact that her life must have necessarily been a busy one.
