Thomas and son, Jessee, served as Privates in Company I, 6th Regiment Cavalry, Missouri State Militia, enlisting December 17, 1861 at Camden, MO. Mustered in January 12, 1862 at Chillicothe, MO. Both were discharged for disability June 5, 1862, at Sedalia, MO. 1870 June 1 Mortality Schedule for Camden, Ray County, Missouri shows Slater, Thomas, age 65, born in Ohio, died in March of Dropsy of heart -- 'line drawn through 'Dropsy' and "Dis of" written above it. He was living with Family 36 on Schedule 1, which shows William and Jane Blankenship. Mariah 'Maria' (Slater) DeMasters , daughter George C. Slater , grandson of Thomas, is buried about 100 feet from Thomas.
