Bio

Sister Catherine Siena Rauschhuber, C.D.P., age 94, passed away March 11, 1998. A rosary was recited March 13 at 4 p.m. with a wake that followed at 6:30 p.m.in The Annunciation Chapel of Regan Hall at Our Lady of the Lake Convent. The Mass of Christian Burial was March 14 in The Annunciation Chapel of Regan Hall at Our Lady of the Lake Convent. Interment followed in Providence Cemetery. Sister Catherine Siena was born in Tours on February 2, 1904, to Aloysius and Mary Dulock Rauschhuber. She was baptized Mathilda. She attended school in Tours and came to know the Sisters of Divine Providence. She joined the Congregation in 1922 and made her Profession in 1925. During her years in education, she taught all the grades at one time or another in schools staffed by the Congregation: 1925-1932-San Antonio, St. Mary’s (half year), Alexandria, St. Francis Xavier; 1932-1935-La Coste, Texas; 1935-1936-San Antonio, St. Anthony School; 1936-1937- New Braunfels, Texas; 1937-1939-La Coste, Texas; 1939-1942-San Fernando, California; 1942-1945-San Antonio, San Fernando Cathedral School; 1945-1946-Mansura, Louisiana; 1946-1947-San Antonio, Providence House. She was a Superior in the following school: 1947-1951-San Antonio, St. Andrew’s Convent (First Superior); 1951-1954-Mansura, Louisiana; 1954-1959-Castroville, Texas, St. Louis School; 1959-1965-West, Texas; 1965-1968-Ennis, Texas; 1968-1978-New Braunfels, Texas; 1978-1983-Ennis, Texas; and 1983-1998 she was retired. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. Sister Agnesita Reininger said of her friend: “We were close friends since our time together at St. Francis in Alexandria. She loved to teach, and her children loved her. She had a great sense of humor, and she was conscientious about prayer always.” Zizik-Kearns Riebe-Saunders Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
