Information provided by A Walston in an email dated October 23, 2012. Sister Mary Leona Jupe was born on January 31, 1910, in Tours, McLennan Co., Texas. She was the youngest daughter and last child of 16 children born to John Anton and Maria (Rauschhuber) Jupe. She was baptized as Josepha Hedwig Jupe on February 2, 1910, at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Tours. Her godparents were Mary and Jake Zotz. Mary was her oldest sister. On June 8, 1925, Josepha enrolled in Our Lady of the Lake Preparatory School for young ladies who wished to enter the Religious Congregation of the sisters of Divine Providence. On June 21, 1927, she entered the novitiate, receiving the name of sister Mary Leona. She made her first profession of vows on June 22, 1928. Sister Leona received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Our Lady of the Lake University. Besides the courses that would lead to a degree, she also took many courses that enriched her life and also enhanced her education and teaching abilities. The congregation is primarily a teaching order of Sisters. Sister Mary Leona was missioned by the Concregation to schools in four different states during her Apostolate: Texas, Louisiana, California and Oklahoma. In 1985, Sister Leona retired from active ministry. She died on January 28, 2002 in San Antonio, Bexar Co., Texas, burial at Sisters of Divine Providence Cemetery, San Antonio, Bexar Co., Texas.
