This name is listed on a "monument erected AD 1888, in memory of those members of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints who died in 1846, 1847, and 1848, during their exodus to seek a home beyond the Rocky Mountains." Nephi and his mother Betsy Shipley died while his father, Joseph Shipley, was away with the Mormon Battalion
