Bio

Antoinette Horn was born in 1890 to John Michael and Johanna Horn. Her parents and four siblings moved to a farm in north central Oklahoma near Ceres in 1894. Antoinette was known as Tony as a child. She attended school in a one room school house in Pleasant Valley through eighth grade and then attended two year of high school in Stillwater, Oklahoma. She returned to the family farm in Ceres, Noble County. In 1928 her mother and younger sister, Jennie, moved twelve miles south into Perry, Oklahoma. They lived on Grove Street where Nettie kept house and helped her mother, Johanna. Her sister, Jennie, worked as a telephone operator with the Perry Phone Company to help support the family. Nettie enjoyed socializing with her friends, her siblings and their children and grandchildren. She was a great hostess with a big smile for her grand nieces and nephews who she showered with attention and kindness. There was the novelty of an Icebox in her kitchen and the kids enjoyed watching big blocks of ice being delivered. Nettie kept a well-maintained yard and car and home for herself, her sister and her mother. In 1949 her mother died; Nettie and Jenny continued to live together in the home. In 1971 Nettie died and was buried in the Ceres Cemetery near her mother where Jennie joined them in 1990.
