Bio

Ernest G. (Grandpa) Snyder, age 96 of West, passed away Friday evening, January 9, 2004 in a Waco hospital. Rosary was recited 10 a.m. Monday followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:15 a.m. in St. Mary's Church of the Assumption in West with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial followed in St. Martin's Cemetery near Tours. Mr. Snyder was born March 4, 1907 in Tours to Joseph and Elizabeth Willenborg Schneider. He married Elizabeth Louise Hahmann on January 10, 1928 in Tours. She preceded him in death on May 17, 1988. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. He was a farmer and veteran of the U.S. Navy and was retired from the Waco Veterans Hospital. He was also a member of the American Legion and St. Mary's Church of the Assumption in West. He loved playing dominoes, watching baseball and going to area picnics. Mr. Snyder is survived by three daughters; Evelyn Hlavenka and husband Alvin, Carol McCoy and Mary Ann Snyder, all of West; eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers were Jon Hlavenka, Trent McCoy, Bubba Wolske, Preston McCoy, Marshall Shelton and Kevin Hlavenka. Visitation was from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday at Kotch Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Parish Center in West. Kotch Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
