William Burnett Harrell, 91, of Jacksonville passed away Sunday July 10, 2011 at the Barton W. Stone Nursing Home in Jacksonville. He was born July 28, 1919 in Fishhook, IL, the son of John Sherman and Jennie Maude Carter Harrell. He married Darlene Grady Oct. 29, 1949 in Winchester. She survives in Jacksonville. Also surviving are two sons, William Joseph (Sharon Ann) Harrell of Franklin and Donald Burnett (Rose Marie) Harrell of Jacksonville; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and three sisters, Louise Tribble of Jacksonville, Gladys Miller of Indiana, and Mae Frye of Jacksonville. Five sisters, Esther Cox, Gloria Wallace, Kay Hart, Faye Stubblefield, Glodie Chaney and six brothers, Howard, Raleigh, Chalmer, John II, Clyde Harrell, and Owen Hearold preceded her in death. William was employed for thirty-four years at the McFarland Mental Health Center in Springfield before his retirement. Serving in the Army during WWII, he was stationed in the Philippines. William was a long time member of the South Jacksonville Assembly of God Church. He was a hard workingman who loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at 12:00 noon at the Mackey Daws Funeral Home in Winchester with interment in the Gillham Cemetery near Winchester. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Assembly of God Church.
