Bernice Helen Starkey Grammer October 3, 1919 – October 27, 2011 Bernice Grammer was born in Palmer, NE to Clara Ellen Samuelson and William Henry Starkey on October 3, 1919. She was the oldest of six girls and one boy born to the Starkey's. Bernice had survived all of them but the youngest sister, Eileen Rowe of St. Paul, NE. On March 18, 1939, Bernice married Charles Grammer of Nebraska, and of this union nine children were born. The Grammers moved to Denver, CO from Nebraska in 1940 and lived there until 1953. They moved to Steamboat Springs, CO and lived there most of the time, with the exception of a few years during the 60's, when they lived in Vernal, UT. They retired to Grand Junction. Mr. Grammer passed away on March 13, 1982 and was buried in the Palisade Cemetery, where Mrs. Grammer will also be laid to rest. Leaving to survive Bernice are all nine of her children, Elaine Walkup of Craig, CO; Janice Rogers of Grand Junction; Dwaine "Butch" (Cheryl) Grammer of Vernal, UT; Marlene Payton of Grand Junction; Carol (Bob) Lewis of La Pointe, UT; Bob (Carla) Grammer of Gillette, WY; Bill (Cerese) Grammer of Craig, CO; Richard Grammer of Rifle, CO, and Barbara (Salvatore) Riele of La Pointe, UT; 28 grandchildren; and 65 great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 4, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Palisade Municipal Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Callahan-Edfast Mortuary.
