Rutha A. "Dovie" Phillips was born 7 December 1878 in Barber, Scott (now Logan), Arkansas, USA. She was 2nd of the eight known children born to James S. Phillips (1856-1905) and Susana A. [Burrows] Phillips (1852-1917). Children of James S. and Susana Burrows Phillips: Anthony O. Phillips (1877-1883), Rutha A. [Phillips] Blythe (1878-1918), Jerry A. Phillips (1882-1895), Mary Flossie [Phillips] Blythe (1884-1935), James Phillips (1887-1888), William Eugene Phillips (1890-1946), Infant Phillips (1892-1892) and Emma M. Phillips (1894-1894). Shortly after her 20th birthday, she was married to David Marcellus Blythe (1877-1959) on 18 January 1899 in Scott County, Arkansas. She and David became the parents of 5 (known) children: Fannie S. Blythe (1900-1904), Dillard Blythe (1902-1981), Infant Son Blythe (1905-1905), Selma Lee [Blythe] Warrick (1912-1961) and Bertha [Blythe] Goode (1917-2005). Rutha passed away on 10 February 1918 in Logan County, Arkansas. Cause of death is not known but could have been the Spanish Flu Epidemic that was sweeping the county at the time. She was laid to rest in the Pine Log Cemetery in Barber, Logan, Arkansas.
