Hester was the second wife of JRB Cooper. Together they had six children. JRB died of Hodgkins Lymphoma when the youngest was eleven years old. Prior to his death, he suggested to Hester, who was a teacher, that she move the family to Texas where their educated daughters would have better opportunity. Remarkably, she did. Hester continued her own education, earning a bachelor's degree at Texas Technological College in Lubbock, Texas. At the time, she was Tech's oldest graduate. Hester was very adept at writing, and she produced beautiful watercolor paintings, which are still hung in the houses of her descendants. She loved painting so much that she told her youngest child, JRB Jr., aka Bob, that when she arrived in heaven she was going to ask God to let her paint the sunrise and sunset skies. He shared that story with his daughter, who has passed it along. Anytime we see beautiful skies at sunrise or sunset, we think they must surely be the work of Hester Kelsey Cooper. Hester was also very proud that she was a Daughter of the American Revolution. She went to great effort to confirm her ancestry, proving that she was a descendant of a soldier who fought in the American Revolution.
