Mr. Orender was a retired carpenter. He worked 15 years for McPherson Contractors. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. He was born June 2, 1933, in North Star, Neb., the son of Jonas Allen and Eltha Helen Holley Orender. He attended Fullerton, Neb., schools. Mr. Orender was a former member of a Knights of Columbus council. He was married to Betty L. Klesath Brown Dec. 25, 1989, in Topeka. She survives. A daughter, Debora Orender, preceded him in death. Other survivors include a daughter, Celeste A. Orender, Topeka; three sons, Keith William Orender, Canton, Ga., Richard Allen Orender, Victoria and Steven Michael Orender, Topeka; two sisters, Dereath Pickerel, Fullerton, Neb., and Phyllis Shurfeldt, Hoyt; six stepchildren; eight grandchildren; and 12 stepgrandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. Military graveside services will be conducted in Mount Hope Cemetery. Mr. Orender will lie in state after 10 a.m. today at the funeral home, where family and friends will meet from 7 until 8 p.m. today. Memorial contributions may be made to the organization of the donor's choice.
