Robert Lester Herl, 84, Victoria, died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011, at his home. He was born Oct. 14, 1926, in rural Munjor to Joseph and Catherine (Frank) Herl. He married LaVerna Marie Dreher on April 19, 1950, in Liebenthal. He was a 1946 graduate of Hays High School. He was a farmer and dairyman. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Munjor, a Third and Fourth Degree Victoria Council Knights of Columbus and the Hays Lions Club. He was an avid baseball fan, umpire and coach. Survivors include his wife, of the home; three sons, Kenneth Herl and wife, Cathy, Stratton, Mo., Darrell Herl and wife, Kim, and Robert D. Herl and wife, Ellie, all of Hays; seven grandchildren, Shelly Dreher, Amy Bell, Kyle Herl, Justin Herl, Abby Herl, Emily Herl and Anna Herl; and nine great-grandchildren, Austin, Mackenzie and Brody Bell, Parker, Mason and Presley Dreher, Alyson and Graycee Herl and Averie Herl. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ernest Herl; a brother, Clarence Herl; and four sisters, Albina Schuckman, Bertha Schaefer, Leona Herald and Genevieve Schuckman. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Munjor; burial in St. Francis Cemetery, Munjor. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today and from 8:45 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, both at Brock's North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601. A vigil will be at 6 p.m. today, followed by a Victoria Council Third and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus rosary at 6:30 p.m., all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Munjor, or St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, Hays, in care of the funeral home. Hays Daily News, 10/14/2011
