Bio

Hays -- Clarence Herl, 77, died April 4, 1990, at Halstead Hospital, Halstead. He was born June 1, 1912, at Munjor, the son of Joseph and Catherine Frank Herl. A resident of Ellis County all his life, he was a retired farmer. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, and the Eagles Lodge, both of Hays. On May 23, 1934, he married Helen Windholz at Emmeram. She died Nov. 3, 1977. He then married Irene Knoll Nov. 22, 1980, at Hays. She survives. Other survivors include: three daughters, Charlotte Worth, Marilyn Dreiling, both of Hays, and Arlene Weigel, Gorham; two stepsons, Robert Knoll, Olathe, and Leo Knoll, Hays; a brother, Robert, Munjor; four sisters, Albina Shuckman and Bertha Schaffer, both of La Crosse, Leona Horald and Genewieve Shuckman, both of Salina; ten grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Rosary will be at 8 p.m. Friday at Hays Memorial Chapel, Hays. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays, with Father Melvin Long presiding. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, and from 1 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, all at the memorial chapel. Burial will be in Saint Francis Cemetery, Munjor. Hays Memorial Chapel, Hays, is in charge of local arrangements. Hutchinson News, 4/5/1990
