Wilma Shirley Roberts (Blair-Smith) was born December 30, 1911 to Thomas Roberts and Amanda Tanner Roberts in Happy Camp, California where she was reared and educated. She had six siblings: Lawrence Joseph Roberts, Emily Roberts Bigelow, Polly Roberts Bokkin, Thomas Roberts Jr., Ernest A. Roberts and Mabel Roberts Effman. When Wilma was living with her sister Polly in Superior, Arizona she met and married John Ernest Blair on November 11, 1928. Their daughter, Peggy Marie was born the following year in nearby Miami, Arizona. At the start of the Great Depression John and his brother Ed moved their families to Happy Camp where they built two family cabins on Indian Creek near Wilma's Robert's family ranch. Son, John Ernest Jr. and daughter, Eleanore Mae were born in 1931 and 1932 in Happy Camp. During 1935 they lived several months in Nevada before returning to Superior where John worked in the Magma Copper Mine. Their son Darwin Wayne Blair was born May 27, 1937. Just a month later on June 18th, John died in a Phoenix, Arizona hospital from complication resulting from a mine accident. Wilma and the children moved to southern California near her sister Polly and brother-in-law Red Bokkin. April 5, 1941, Wilma married Charles Allen Smith in Las Vegas, Nev. They made their home in California's Mojave Desert for several years before moving to American Falls, Idaho in 1950. Wilma and Charlie Smith had three children together: Shirley, Barbara and Harry Smith. Wilma worked for Lamb Western from the mid-1960s until her retirement in 1973. Charlie died July 26, 1984. Wilma, age 77, died Friday, January 6, 1989 at her home in American Falls, Idaho following an extended illness. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. the following Tuesday at the Davis Chapel with viewing at Davis Mortuary from 9 a.m. until service time. Burial followed in the Valley View Cemetery in Rockland where Wilma and Charlie rest in peace side by side. She was survived by three sons, John Blair, Darwin Blair and Harry Smith, all of American Falls; four daughters, Peggy Parrish, American Falls; Eleanore Diabaj, Ennis, Texas; Shirley Olander, Shelley; Barbara Brunk, Burley; one brother, Ernest Roberts, Montague, Calif.; 27 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.
