Bio

Mrs. Hazel Dayton Service for Mrs. Hazel Dayton, 78, of Route 1, will be at 2 pm Wednesday in Letitia Baptist Church. Mrs. Dayton died Monday afternoon in a local hospital following an apparent heart attack. Officiating will be Rev. Joe Carmen, pastor. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery under the direction of Dalton-Ritter Funeral Home. Mrs. Dayton was born September 29, 1891, in Marion, Illinois, and moved to Comanche County in 1907. She was married to Alger Dayton December 25, 1912, in Walters. A member of homemakers groups, Mrs. Dayton was a charter member of the Beaver Valley Home Demonstration Club and had held many offices in the organization. She was considered a pioneer of the Extension Service, which is part of the Oklahoma State University home extension service, and served as president of the County Home Demonstration Council from 1931-1932. She had served as county historian for the group, now known as Extension Homemakers Council, for the past six years. Mrs. Dayton also served as 4-H leader and demonstrator for the group for the past 14 years. Mrs. Dayton has assisted with the county fair as committee chairman for the extension homemaker groups for the past 20 years. She received recognition at eh Tulsa State Fair as Woman of the Year for her community leadership and achievements. She was also an active worker with the Letitia Baptist Church, serving many years as Girls' Auxiliary Director and held several offices in Woman's Missionary Union. She was serving as Sunday School teacher at the time of her death. Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, Lloyd Dayton, 1311 S.8th, and Keith Dayton, 1107 Cherry; two daughters, Mrs. Loy (Zona) Wilson, Oklahoma City, and Mrs. Joseph (Helen) Elek, Dallas, Tex.; her sister, Mrs. Myrta Hughes, Tulsa; 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren
