From Moberly Monitor-Index, Saturday, 9-13-1947, pg. 3, Ancestry.com JOHN R. SUMPTER OF HIGBEE DIES; FUNERAL SUNDAY HIGBEE, Sept. 13---John R. Sumpter died at 3 o'clock yesterday morning in Lee Hospital in Fayette where he had been a patient five weeks. His home was four miles south of here. A native of Howard County, he was a farmer and had lived in that community his entire life. He was a member of the Christian church. Mr. Sumpter is survived by his wife; and six children, Mrs. John Ketchum, Jennings Lodge, Ore., Mrs. Melvin Ketchum, Chesterfield, Ill., Mrs. Ernest Orton, Hannibal, Richard Sumpter, Wood River, Ill., Austin Sumpter, Higbee, and Mrs. Russell Pitney, Higbee. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon in the Higbee Christian church and burial will be in the Higbee cemetery. -from Tom Waters
