The husband of Josie, he died from tuberculosis, according to his death certificate which was signed by his wife. --------------------------------------------------------- Transcribed from Higbee News by Kathy Bowlin Friday 11 Feb 1921, Vol 34, No 43--CHAS SUMPTER DEAD--Chas. Sumpter died at his home in Springfield, Mo., at 11:20 a.m. on January 30, 1921, following a short illness. Mr. Sumpter was the son of Jas. H. and China Sumpter, deceased, and was born on the old home place south of town on March 10, 1876, being therefore 44 years, 10 months and 20 days old. He is survived by his widow, two sisters, Mrs. W. J. Robb and Mrs. S. S. Ketchum, and two brothers, James and John Sumpter, all of this place. Funeral services were held at his home in Springfield on Tuesday, February 1, by Rev. J. W. Canghorn. He was laid to rest in Greenlawn cemetery by the side of his first wife.
