"Scurry County Times", Snyder, TX - 4 Sep 1941. Young Woman of Bison Dies After Few Days Illness. Death claimed Mrs. Stella LaVerne Sorrells, 19, Tuesday night in a local hospital following a brief illness. Born at Cottonwood, in Callahan county, August 10, 1922, Mrs. Sorrells and her husband were residing in the Bison community. Rev. Cone Merritt, Baptist minister of Post, conducted final rites for Mrs. Sorrells Wednesday afternoon, 4:00 o'clock, at the Ira Baptist Church. Pallbaereres were J.P. Tate, Jack Clark, Buddy Trevey, Doodle Berryhill, Bruce Murphy and Jim Hartley. Helen Morrow, Margry Brown, Othel Trevey and Mrs. Jack Clark were in charge of floral offerings. Surviving are the husband, Claude Sorrells, an infant daughter, Patsy Sue; the parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Griffin, five brothers, H.T. Griffin, J.M. Griffin, C.A. Griffin, G.B. Griffin and Jack Russell Griffin; and five sisters, Mrs. V.D. Hodges, Mrs. Ben G. Hartley, Mrs. Preuitt Mason, Mrs. Richard Davis and Pluma Griffin. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Odom Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements, with Burial in the Ira Cemetery Funeral Notice: Friends and aquaintances are respectfully notified of the death of Mrs. Claude Sorrells, born August 10, 1922, and died September 2, 1941; age 19 Years, 22 Days. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon, 4:00 o'clock at the Ira Baptist Church, Rev. Cone Merritt will officiate. Interment will be in Ira Cemetery. Odom Funeral Home will be in charge. Snyder, Texas. September 2, 1941. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
