OBITUARY: Laura E. Otto, 87, of Beaver Crossing, died Wednesday December 17, 1997 at the Friend Manor in Friend. She was born April 11, 1910, on a farm northeast of Beaver Crossing to William J. and Matilda "Tillie" (Troyer) Miller. As a young girl, Laura attended country schools and later was united in marriage to Earl E. Otto at Wilber, Nebraska. Laura worked as a secretary for Bankers Life Insurance Company in Lincoln for 23 years and after Earl died in 1967, she returned to Beaver Crossing. Laura was a member of the United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, Kensington, and a card club, all of Beaver Crossing. She liked to garden and was a good cook. Her great nephew, Dave, especially remembers her deep fat fried French toast. Laura also enjoyed crocheting and embroidery work. She really loved doing crossword puzzles. Survivors include many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews, especially great nephew David Joosten and his family of Beaver Crossing, and a great niece, Lorrain (Daryl) McCown and her family of Estes Park, Colorado, and a host of other relatives and friends. Laura was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Earl in 1967, brothers Homer, Lyle, Henry, Lloyd, Floyd, Leslie, and Wilber Miller and sisters Clara Smetter, Wilma Dolan, and Minnie Roth.
