Bio

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Sept. 7, at 9 o'clock a.m. at the St. Francis Church of Ashton for Walter Lewandowski, 69, who died after a short illness. Msgr. Jarzemski offered the Requiem High Mass with the school choir singing the mass. Burial was in the St. Francis cemetery. Badura Mortuary was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Carl Lewandowski of Arcadia, Anzel Lewandowski of Loup City, Edmund and Leonard Lewandowski of Ashton, Ray Lewandowski of Litchfield and Leonard Kaminski of Loup City. Walter, son of Michael and Rosella Lewandowski, was born on a farm by Schaupps Siding northwest of Ashton. He attended schools and grew to manhood there. On April 12, 1910, he was united in marriage to Tekla Kaminski and to them were born eleven children. In, 1951 he retired from the farm and made his home on a small acreage on the outskirts of Ashton. He was in good health until a few months ago. He leaves to mourn, his wife, Tekla, four daughters, Mrs. Margaret Kowalski, Mrs. Sally Golka, Mrs. Reita Gembala and Mrs. Annett Mendyk, all of Loup City; and his seven sons, Louie, Al, Mike, Gene and James of Ashton, Andy of Loup City and Ralph of Boelus; six brothers, Stanley and Alex of Ashton, John of Litchfield, Tony of Loup City, Bill of North Platte and Bob of Grand Island; five sisters, Mrs. Rose Sekutera of Loup City, Mrs. Josie Larchick of Cheyenne, Wyo., Mrs. Anna Waskowiak and Mrs. Elenore Skibinski both of Grand Island and Mrs. Mary Ziglenski of Kalama, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Frank, and sister, Martha and one grandchild. Contributor: Diane (47528261)
