Bio

Ernie Perlenfein's earthly life ended at his home north of Yuma on August 3, 1999 after a long battle with cancer. Mass of Christian Burial was offered by Father Jerry Young at Saint John's Catholic Church in Yuma, on August 7, 1999. Phyllis Harper organist, accompanied Linda Frank as she sang Ave Maria, Panis Angelicus and the prayer to Saint Francis. Ernie Perlenfein was born at Yuma, to Albert and Oouuala Bushner Perlenfein on July 22, 1931. He grew up in the Lone Star Community. He attended grade school at Lone Star. He attended hIgh school in Yuma and graduated in 1949. While in high school he was an excellent student, a leader and a valuable asset in the various sports programs, including basketball, football, baseball and track. After high school, he attended a diesel mechanics school in Chicago. Ernie married his high school sweetheart, Annabelle Blach, on July 27, 1957. Since 1965, they have lived on the Ambrose and Katherine Blach home place northeast of Yuma. Ernie continued in his father's and father's-in-law footsteps as being a conscientious and successful tiller of the soil. Raising wheat was one of Ernie's great loves. He was known to have tried 43 different varieties of wheat and was instrumental in introducing the Newton variety to this area. In 1977 he received the first Outstanding Farmer Award from the Yuma County Soil Conservation District. He has been recognized in the Rocky Mountain News for his outstanding performance in the farming industry. He is survived by his wife, Annabelle, and his parents, Albert and Oouula Perlenfein; sister, Jean and husband, Bob Chrismer and family; brother, Dennis and wife, Charlotte and family, all of Yuma. Internment was made in the Yuma Cemetery and funeral arrangements were handled by Spellman, Schmidt, Baucke Mortuary.
