Gloria M. Norwood was the fourth child born to Ambrose and Katherine (Brand) Blach in Yuma, Colorado on October 8, 1924. She passed away suddenly at Poudre Valley Hospital, Fort Collins, CO, on November 8, 2006. She attended the Hammond School north of Yuma and graduated from Yuma Union High School in 1942. She attended Colorado A&M for a year before joining the war effort by working for Garner-Denver until 1947. While working in Denver, she met an airman stationed at Lowry Air Base. George Norwood was from a farm in Emmett, Idaho. They were married at St. John's Catholic Church in Yuma, CO in 1947. They lived in Idaho and Washington, operating photography studios. In 1951, they moved to a farm northeast of Yuma. George died January 25, 1957 of injuries from a hunting accident, leaving Gloria with four children and two months pregnant. With the help of family, she set out to raise the five children. She tackled the task like she did many others, with her faith in God, love of her late husband and hard work. Her greatest joy was raising those five children and seeing them all graduate from college. She cherished the life that God had given her and loved her family dearly including her brother and sisters and all her nieces and nephews. The main lesson she taught her children was to never judge others, as no one on earth is qualified for that task. As the children grew up, married and moved away, she turned her passion to her seven acre yard. She moved more of it each year with her riding mower. She also started planting flowers in the road ditch. Her off farm interest involved travel. She went on several long trips including 12 days in New York City, trips to distant family events and trips with the Heritage Club. She also traveled locally going to dances. She would dance with anyone, male or female, and if no volunteers were present, she would still dance. Gloria spent time volunteering as a "gray lady" at the nursing home and enjoyed bringing a smile to the resident's faces. This led to another passion; dressing as a clown. She and her clown outfit took part in many regional parades and events making the front page of sever newspapers with no one realizing who she was. She also enjoyed helping the Yuma Foundation and Public TV Channel 6. Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, George, her parents, Ambrose and Katherine Blach, her sister Betty Buchkowski, brothers-in-law, Herb Buchkowski, Raymond Willeke, Ernie Perlenfein, Marion Gartin, Bill Norwood and Bob Norwood. She was also preceded by grandson, Christian John Norwood. Gloria is survived by her brother Perry Blach of Yuma, sisters Avis Willeke and Joan Gartin of Otis, Bonnie Blach of Denver, Annabelle Perlenfein of Yuma and Charlotte Wegner of Huston, TX. Also surviving are her children, Jim and Kay of Weston, MO, Gary and Ann of Cheyenne, WY, John and Joni of Windsor, CO, Janice and Raymond Wright of Timnath, CO, and Maryjo Warren of Denver. She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Services were held at St. John's Catholic church with interment beside her husband in the Yuma Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Baucke Mortuary. Memorials may be made to The Yuma Foundation in care of the funeral home.--Yuma Pioneer, Thursday, Nov. 16, 2006, Pg. 8
