Sherman Democrat, September 29, 1966 p 6 Grayson Native Dies : Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Barrett Funeral Home Chapel for Mr. J. L. Flowers, 73, of 422 N. Harrison. Mr. Flowers died late Wednesday afternoon at a Sherman hospital. Services will be conducted by Rev. C. J. Graves, minister of Friendship Methodist Church. Pallbearers will be Claude Morrison, O. C. Shellenberger, G. W. Scott, Jack Morrow and John Fields. The fellow employees of Shellenberger Construction Company will serve as honorary pallbearers. Burial will be in Cedarlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Barrett Funeral Home Mr. Flowers was born May 15, 1893 near Bells, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Francis Flowers and attended schools in Grayson County. He married Virginia Ann Kidd, July 18, 1915 at the Flowers home in Bells. He and Mrs. Flowers moved to Sherman from Bells in the 1920's. Mr. Flowers was a heavy equipment operator working 23 years with the city of Sherman and about 10 years each with Wray Wible Construction Company and Shellenberger Construction Company. He was a member of the Friendship Methodist Church. Survivors are his wife of Sherman ; three sons, James Luther Flowers of El Centro, California, Thomas Flowers and Preston Orr Flowers, both of Sherman ; two daughters, Mrs. Paluldeane Lilly of Sherman and Mrs. Merrell Lou Taylor of McConnellsville, Ohio ; three brothers, one sister, twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. ............................................................
