Following information is from, "A Study of the Descendants of Jakob Friedrich Herzer and Related Families" by Mrs. John F. Herzer, pg. 258 "Born in Sarbka, Wongrowitz, Province of Posen, Prussia. Mathilda Kerlin was the second child and the second daughter of Julianna [nee Wentland] and Gottlieb Kerlin. It is not known exactly when Mathilda came to the United States. Whether or not she came as a single lady or a married woman we do not know. We do know that she was married as a young woman and lost her husband to death. She later married [9 years her senior], Julius Nikolei. He was the owner and operator of a saloon in Gibbon and it was because of this that, Mathilda wrote to Texas to her mother and family for approval to marry him. Several of the children visited their sister in Minnesota from time to time. There were no children to survive Mathilda, however Julius Nikolei did have one son which she raised. Julius Nikolei had a sister, Dorathea nee Nikolei Witt, (76 years, 28 days Died: December 28, 1897 in Gibbon, Minn.)" Contributor: William Freyholtz (49701625)
