Bio

According to 1910 US Census immigration from Bohemia 1878; the 1920 and 1930 US Census both have 1880 immigration; and contributor 50950498 Mari Matulka suggested 1884 immigration Seward Blue Valley Blade (Seward, Nebraska) 15 Feb 1951, Thu Page 5 John Turek was born May 16, 1870, in Czechoslovakia. He passed away Sunday morning, Feb. 4, 1951, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mary Bohaty of Beaver Crossing, at the age of 80 years, 8 months, and 19 days. He came to this country in early boyhood with his father, brothers, and sisters. His mother died in the old country when he was about two years of age. He spent his early years on a farm near Octavia, Nebraska, which his father had homesteaded. He was united in marriage to Mary Rezac February 29, 1892, at David City. to this union were born five children. Mr. Turek farmed near Octavia and later moved to the Bee Community. He was Precinct Assessor for almost twenty years. Mrs. Turek preceded him in death January 5, 1938, and one son, Edward, in 1944. For the past five years. Mr. Turek made his home with his daughter, Mary Bohaty at Beaver Crossing, where he was tenderly taken care of until his death. He leaves to mourn his passing his sister, Josephine Cuda, Schuyler, Nebraska; three daughters, Mary Bohaty, Beaver Crossing, Anna Litty, Lincoln, and Tillie Kunasek, Staplehurst; one son, John, Ulysses; nineteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the Wood Brothers chapel on Wednesday afternoon, February 7, the Rev. Zavodil of Wilber officiating. Burial was on the family lot in the Seward Cemetery.
