Obituary: The Banner-Press (David City, Nebraska) 10 Mar 1988, Thu Page 24 "Services for John J. Turek held March 5" Services for John J. Turek, 88, formerly of Columbus, were held Saturday morning, March 5, from St. Bonaventure Church in Columbus with the Rev. Fr. Michael Jennrich, O.F.M. officiating. Mr. Turek died March 1, at the Butler County Hospital. John, the son of John and Marie Rezac Turek, was born May 10, 1899, in Butler County. On Jan. 23, 1923, he was married to Lucy A. Policky at St. Wenceslaus Church in Bee. He farmed near Ulysses before moving to Columbus in 1952. the last two years he resided at David Place. A farmer, he was also a former deputy for the Platte County Sheriff's Department and a former officer of the Columbus Police Department. He was a member of the Nebraska Police Officer's Association, St. Bonaventure Church and the Franciscan Missionary Union. Survivors include three sons, Jerome of Dwight, Raymond of Susanville, Calif., and Vernon of Garnerville, Nev., 11 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lucy in 1987, a son, Louis, one brother, three sisters, and one great grandson. Contributor: S. Wardell (47551395)
