Bio

Walter West SULLIVAN - Walter L. "Hooker" West, 81, of Sullivan, died at 8:04 p.m. Friday (Sept. 16, 1994) at the Sullivan Health Care Center. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Reed Funeral Hume with Wayne Turner officiating. Burial will be in Moultrie County Memorial Park with military graveside rites. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. He was born Oct. 5, 1912, in Moultrie County, the son of Walter F. and Edith M. Wheeler West. He married Ethel J. Matheson in 1937; she survives. Also surviving are a son, Bob West of Springfield; two daughters, Donna Sowers of Bethany and Karen Martin of Sullivan; two brothers, Ivory "Ike" West of Champaign and Earl "Buck" West of Sullivan; two sisters, Merle Murphy of Sullivan and Lolus Bruce of Urbana; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother. Mr. West was a farmer and a carpenter. He was a member of the Sullivan First Baptist Church and the Moultrie County American Legion Post 68.
