Bio

Mary Bures, daughter of Joseph Fujan and Anna Mikulas Fujan was born February 7, 1899, on a homestead east of Milligan in Saline County. As a child, she loved the outdoors and helped with the daily chores. She received her education in rural school District No. 96, graduating from the eight grade. As was the custom in the early days, she helped her parents with the milking and field work in true pioneer spirit. On April 8, 1919, she was united in marriage to Thomas Bures of Exeter. To this union five children were born. They raised their family on the farm south of Exeter. She lovingly cared for her mother-in-law for seven years. In 1926, the family moved into their newly built home, where Tom and Mary continued to live until 1950, when they retired and moved to Exeter. She and her husband enjoyed gardening, sharing their fruits of labor with neighbors and friends. Tomas passed away on July 4, 1967, while Mary continued living alone in Exeter. Her hands were never idle as she had many hobbies and enjoyed sharing them with her friends. Her greatest joy were her eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She lived her life to the fullest extent, sharing her knowledge and experiences with her family. Mary entered the Friend hospital on Saturday, March 6, passing away suddenly on Sunday, March 7, 1982, at the age of 83 years and one month. She will be sadly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband; infant son, Verland; son, Erwin; infant granddaughter, Karen Kroeger; her parents, two brothers and two sisters. She is survived by daughters, Irene and husband James Slezak of Milligan, Dorothy and husband Richard Buzek of Tobias, and Darlene and husband Robert Wayne Kroeger of Omaha; a daughter-in-law, Caroline Bures of Exeter; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Thomas and Sharon Slezak and children, Michelle, Joan, and T.J., James B. and Betty Slezak and children, Eric and Tina Williams, Jeanne and Brian Kottas, Adam and Matthew, Gerald Slezak, Jan Buzek, Sherrill and Tom Davis, Lisa Buzek, Kay and Mike Francis and Michelle, Connie and Tony DiAgosta and Karla, Pamela and Ron Maier and Jason, Donna and Al Loghry and Amy; sisters-in-law, Mildred Fujan of Milligan, and Anna Fujan of Geneva; a brother-in-aw, Charles Matejka of Friend; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
