Glasco Sun, Sept. 9, 1910, page 2: J. William Pilcher was born in Livingston County, Ill., Feb. 11, 1853. He was married July 2, 1874, to Miss Anna Newman. To them were born five children, Gertrude, deceased; Purdy, Walter, William and Ola, who remain to mourn their loss. The family moved to Kansas in 1877, settling five miles east of Glasco, Cloud County, where they lived until their removal to our city in 1908. In 1879, under the preaching of The Rev. Mr. Ream, he found the "Light that lighteth every man that cometh into the world," and joined the Bethel Methodist Episcopal Church in 1880. He was an ardent, earnest worker, filling many important positions in the church economy, and was always a friend to the itinerant preacher. His home was always open to them, and there are many who will remember their debt to him for his genuine Christian hospitality. He became a member of the M.E. Church in Glasco in the Fall of 1909, by transfer. His stay with us has not been long, and frail health has held him from his usually abundant labors in the church, but her has shown us the real Christian spirit of patience, endurance, and loyalty. He has been laboring under the encroachment of disease for about five years --- and was confined to his bed several weeks. Although everything possible was done for the restoration of his health, he gradually faded away, and was released Monday morning, Sept. 5, 1910; the days of the years of his pilgrimage numbering 57 years, 6 months and 24 days. Besides a wife and four children, he leaves three brothers, James F. of Glasco; Robt. B. of Colorado; and Chas. H. of Glasco, and a host of friends and neighbors, whose sorrow is deep and whose loss is beyond measure.
