Glasco Sun, Jan. 10, 1918, page 1: James Finley Pilcher was born near Manchester, Livingston County, Ill., March 25, 1855 and died at his home in Glasco, Kan. Jan. 1, 1918 at 9:30 A.M. Age 62 years, 9 months, and 7 days. He was one of eight children and the fourth child in the family. His education was received in Illinois. When he was 22 years of age the family moved to Kan. and he bought a claim 8 miles north east of Glasco. Two years after arriving in Glasco, Oct. 9, 1879 he was united in marriage to Helen Newell. To this union were born eight children, five boys and three girls. Three of these children have preceded him. The living are: Robert N. Pilcher, Burley, Idaho; J.C. Pilcher, Kansas City, Mo.; Arthur C. Pilcher, "With the Colors" at Camp Doniphan, Okla.; Myrtilla Everley of Wichita, Kan.; and Lois Irene Pilcher at home with her mother. One grandchild, Delma Marjorie Everley, of Wichita, Kan. One brother, Robert Pilcher, is the only surviving member of the family and now living in Glasco. In Sept. 1908 the family moved to Glasco from the farm where they reside. He was interested in the town in which he lived and in his own quiet manner he did his part helping. He was also among one of the first members to join the "Busy Men's Bible Class" of the Methodist Church and worked in its various activities.
