Bio

A Civil War Veteran having served as a Private in Co. C of the 122nd Ill. Vol. Inf. Enlisted Aug. 15, 1862 at Kane, Greene Co., Ill. Mustered out of Federal service Sep. 15, 1865, at Mobile, Alabama. Son of Jebez Westly Irwin and Elizabeth Leach. Married three times, 1st to Mary Elizabeth Armstrong in Greene County, Ill. Two children, Charles & Ella Irwin. His second marriage to Mrs. Sarah J. Kennedy ended in divorce. His 3rd marriage was to Clara Mathilda Johnson at Onalaska, La Crosse Co., Wis. She was the mother of their nine children.
