Bio

Leora M. Esslinger, 82, of Greeley, Colo., and formerly of Sterling, Colo., died April 16, 2011, at Bonell Good Samaritan in Greeley. Leora was born Oct. 15, 1928, in Sumner to Mike G. and Eva E. (Warner) Barta. On May 21, 1969, she married Elmer R. Esslinger in Hot Springs, S.D. he preceded in death in 1982. Survivors are: daughters and sons-in-law, Evia and Robert Leverington of Kenneh, Mo., Darlene and Ronald Hoagland of Greeley, and Bett and Dennis Cumpston of Grand Island; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Helen Burkey of Kearney, Fred and Sheila Burkey and Steve and Jennifer Burkey, all of Sterling; three brothers, Donald Barta, Harman Barta and Lloyd Barta, all of Lexington; sister, Dorothy Linder of Cozad; 15 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. Leora was a certified nursing assistant. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. Leora was also preceded in death by her sisters, Mildred Stiner, Martha Root, Edna Dewey; and brothers, Chester, George, Ed, Frank and Francis Barta.
